Wake Up Before its too Late!

The lifestyle of the Youth has them in a trance. The fast pace of their work, the intense competition, the replacement of interpersonal relations with virtual relationships and the powerful drive to become rich has affected their health in a serious way. The ill effects of this lifestyle can be seen clearly through some very unsettling statistics.

Divorce is one such worrisome trend that is on the rise in India. In the 1980s, New Delhi had two courts that dealt with divorce. Today there are 16. A new Indian matchmaking website Secondshaadi.com, or second marriage that targets divorcées and widowers stands testimony to this rising trend. It comes as quite a surprise that a large chunk of these divorcées are aged between 25 and 35. Stress is breaking up marriages in its very early stages.
One of the main causes for divorce is unhappiness. So what is it that makes the youth of today so unhappy? For one, it is unemployment. The below average education system churns out millions of youngsters who struggle to find a job in a terrible job market.
Insecurity, Insanity   and uncertainty are grappling the minds of people and families.”
This has lead to a lot of young citizens taking to drugs and other substances for relief. Statistics reveal that at least 25,426 people committed suicide due to drug and addiction related problems in the last 10 years across India. This comes down to an average 2,542 suicides every year, 211 per month and 7 per day.
Artificial intelligence, Robotics, travel, transport and in every other dimension, technological advancements have grown in unimaginable proportions. On one side we see that the modern world is increasingly becoming convenient and getting faster. On the other side people are less and less happy and healthy.
Is this the kind of world we want to be in? When did money and fancy gadgets become more important than humanity, health and social tranquility? Is there a way out?

Yoga is going to be the culture of the future. The world can never be saved unless a complete process of reorientation of the yogic culture is imparted to every man, woman and child. Yoga is a universal culture and represents the sentiments, aspirations and ideals, not only of one nation, but of the whole world.”
-Sri Swami Satyananda

Take a step back and relax

Technology has drastically changed the way we live our lives. With everything we could possibly need available at our fingertips, our life has become a whole lot more convenient. Our life has now started to move at such an unbelievably fast pace that coping with it has become a ridiculously difficult task.

This hastened pace we live life at has dearly lost us when it comes to interpersonal relations. No longer does anyone have time for their family and loved ones. Faces streaked with stress and anger seem to have replaced those of tranquility and happiness. Humanity has really suffered as a consequence.

Statistics tell a shocking tale of rapidly increasing rates of suicide, drug addiction, substance abuse, divorce and depression all over the world. Even in a country like India, where the family bond is particularly strong, the people seem unhappy and stressed.

It is alarming to note that youth of the country who are highly qualified with lucrative careers are unable to deal with the emotional stress of the modern world and are cracking under its pressure.
We cannot keep living the way we do today. We need to escape from the tight grip of the ever increasing competition and bad will going around. How? A great way to start is to take off a little me time everyday to unwind. Yogic breathing exercises work wonders by calming you mind and freeing you of stress. It adds a little perspective to your problems as well.

Your mental and psychological well being is as important as your physical health. And yoga helps you achieve all three. Spend that time on yourself everyday. You'll find yourself beginning a better human being.
