The
lifestyle of the Youth has them in a trance. The fast pace of their work, the
intense competition, the replacement of
interpersonal relations with virtual relationships and the powerful drive to
become rich has affected their health in a serious way. The ill effects of this
lifestyle can be seen clearly through some very unsettling statistics.
Divorce
is one such worrisome trend that is on the rise in India. In the 1980s, New Delhi had two courts that dealt with divorce. Today
there are 16. A new Indian matchmaking website Secondshaadi.com, or second
marriage that targets divorcées and widowers stands testimony to this rising
trend. It comes as quite a surprise that a large chunk of these divorcées are
aged between 25 and 35. Stress is breaking up marriages in its very early
stages.
One of the main causes for divorce is unhappiness. So what is it
that makes the youth of today so unhappy? For one, it is unemployment. The
below average education system churns out millions of youngsters who struggle
to find a job in a terrible job market.
“Insecurity,
Insanity and uncertainty are grappling
the minds of people and families.”
This has lead to a lot of young citizens taking to drugs and
other substances for relief. Statistics reveal that at least
25,426 people committed suicide due to drug and addiction related problems in
the last 10 years across India. This comes down to an average 2,542 suicides
every year, 211 per month and 7 per day.
Artificial intelligence, Robotics, travel, transport and in every other
dimension, technological advancements have grown in unimaginable proportions.
On one side we see that the modern world is increasingly becoming convenient
and getting faster. On the other side people are less and less happy and
healthy.
Is this the kind of world we want to be in? When did money and fancy gadgets become more important than humanity, health and social tranquility? Is there a way out?

complete process of reorientation of the yogic culture is imparted to every
man, woman and child. Yoga is a universal culture and represents the
sentiments, aspirations and ideals, not only of one nation, but of the whole
world.”
-Sri Swami Satyananda

humanity on any grounds!
